North Vancouver Shidokan offers instruction in Shotokan karate-do in a traditional, yet friendly atmosphere.
Classes are offered for all levels of ability, including beginners, for ages 7 through adults. While we hope that the information on this website will answer your questions, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have additional questions.
Our club is part of the Japan Karate Association, the world’s largest and oldest karate association. Our senior Sensei is Michael Doherty, 6th Dan, and 2012 Coach of the Year – Grassroots for Karate BC.

Beginners Program
Our next intake for beginners will be January 2026.
The program runs for 8 weeks where a dedicated instructor teaches the basics needed to participate in a regular class. The students learn etiquette and fundamental techniques. If the student has previous karate experience, the program may not be necessary.
The dedicated classes are Mondays and Thursdays from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Please, arrive at least 15 minutes before the class starts. Uniforms are not required.
